Real Madrid prepare to trigger clause to beat Tottenham to 20-year-old playmaking genius

Xabi Alonso’s Real Madrid are set to trigger the €10 million buyback clause to secure Nico Paz’s signature ahead of Tottenham.

According to a report from Fichajes, Real Madrid will exercise the buy-back clause to add Nico Paz to their squad in the summer of 2026. Los Blancos are pleased with his progress at Como and have decided to pay the €10 million to bring him back.

Paz came through the Real Madrid youth system and made a name for himself on his way up. Highly rated at the Santiago Bernabeu, he even featured in a few first-team games before parting ways last summer in search of more regular playing time.

Los Blancos allowed his move to Como but inserted a series of buy-back clauses for future summer windows. They also secured 50% of any future sale.

The Argentine attacking midfielder has been on fire since joining the Italian outfit. He was involved in a total of 35 league games last season and ended up contributing towards 15 goals. His exceptional performances put him on the radar of Tottenham, who tried to secure his services in the recently concluded transfer window.

Los Blancos to re-sign Paz in 2026

The North London club were desperate to add a new attacking midfielder to their squad, and Paz was quite high on their wishlist. They tabled a €70 millionoffer for the 20-year-old, but Como turned it down, and it might have a lot to do with their exceptional relationship with the Spanish giants.

Reports suggest Real Madrid will reward the Italian club for their loyalty. They could actually pay more than the release clause to ensure the relationship remains strong going forward.

With Spurs keeping a close eye on Paz, Los Blancos have decided that they will trigger the€10 million buy-back clause set for next summer to bring him back. It would rise to €11 million if the team in white end up waiting another year.

For now, the 20-year-old will continue to play for Como, aiming to further develop his game and prepare for a future where he will compete with top players for a place in the Real Madrid starting XI.
