Manchester United shot-stopper Andre Onana looks all set to join Turkish club Trabzonspor on a season-long loan.
Andre Onana could end up parting ways with Manchester United in the coming days. According to Chris Wheeler, the Cameroonian international is all set to join Trabzonspor on loan for the rest of the season.
Onana made quite a name for himself at Inter Milan. He established himself as one of the best goalkeepers in the world with his performances in Serie A and the Champions League. On the back of his impressive work, United forked out a significant fee to sign him in the summer of 2023.
While they had a lot of expectations from the 29-year-old, he has failed to live up to them. Ruben Amorim is no longer confident about him being their first-choice; as a result, the Portuguese manager has preferred having Altay Bayindir in goal in all three of their Premier League outings this season.
On top of that, the Red Devils ended up signing Senne Lammens on deadline day, which practically makes Onana the third-choice keeper in the team. United informed the Cameroonian at the start of the summer that they would sign a new shot-stopper. They asked him to look for a potential move away from the club.
Onana to part ways with United in coming days
While quite a few top clubs were linked with him, nothing concrete happened. The transfer window in the majority of European countries is now over, but Onana could still secure a move away as clubs in Saudi Arabia and Turkiye are keen on his signature.
The Red Devils would have preferred a permanent departure, but they don’t mind a potential loan deal. While multiple clubs from the Middle East and Turkiye are after his signature, Trabzonspor look all set to win the race for his signature.
They are looking for more quality in goal and after being offered the opportunity to sign the 29-year-old, they decided to put the foot on the accelerator. As per Wheeler, the Turkish outfit are closing in on his signature, and if all goes according to plan, he should join them on a season-long loan before the end of their transfer window.
