Seahawks elevate two defenders from practice squad

The Seattle Seahawks elevated veteran cornerback Shaquill Griffin and defensive tackle Quinton Bohanna from the practice squad for Sunday’s season opener against the San Francisco 49ers.

‘Heavyweight fight’ is matchup to watch in Seahawks-49ers clash

Griffin, a ninth-year pro, returned to Seattle as free agent this offseason. He spent four seasons with the Seahawks from 2017-2020, totaling 249 tackles, 48 passes defended and six interceptions.

In eight total seasons with the Seahawks, Jacksonville Jaguars, Houston Texas, Carolina Panthers and Minnesota Vikings, he has 407 tackles, 70 passes defended and nine interceptions over 106 games.

The 30-year-old Griffin adds depth to a Seahawks cornerback group headlined by Devon Witherspoon and Tariq Woolen. Woolen had missed Thursday’s practice with an illness, but was a full participant Friday.

Bohanna, a fifth-year pro, has appeared in 34 career games in stints with the Seahawks, Dallas Cowboys, Detroit Lions and Tennessee Titans. He has 39 tackles and three tackles for loss in his career.

A sixth-round pick by the Cowboys in 2021, the 26-year-old Bohanna appeared in one game and played seven snaps for Seattle last season.

Seattle’s moves came after outside linebacker Uchenna Nwosu (knee) and wide receivers Jake Bobo (concussion) and Dareke Young (hamstring) on Friday were ruled out for the season opener.

The Seahawks open the season Sunday against the NFC West-rival 49ers at 1:05 p.m. Radio coverage begins at 10 a.m. with the pregame show on 710 AM Seattle Sports and the Seattle Sports app.
