The Buffalo Bills kick off the 2025 NFL with a primetime matchup against the Baltimore Ravens on September 7.

In an exclusive interview with Heavy Sports before the Week 1 matchup, Bills quarterback Josh Allen addressed the team’s committee approach when it comes to his receiving weapons. Under offensive coordinator Joe Brady, the “everybody eats” mentality makes it difficult to guess who will become Allen’s top target.

There’s pass-catching running back James Cook, who finally bagged his extension this offseason, signing a four-year, $48 million deal. Wide receiver Khalil Shakir led the team in receptions last year, registering 76 catches for 821 yards and four touchdowns.

When I asked Allen which of his receiving weapons will surprise viewers the most this season, the NFL’s reigning MVP named two players.

Keon Coleman

“I think Keon Coleman is primed for a really good year,” Allen said. “I think he’s had a great, great camp. Every day, he’s been out there working extremely hard.”

The Bills’ 2024 second-rounder registered 29 receptions for 556 yards and four touchdowns his rookie year. While Coleman was limited in practice due to a groin injury this week, he was a full participant on Friday. Buffalo is hoping that 2025 turns out to be Coleman’s breakout yet.

Bills QB Josh Allen Also Believes WR Josh Palmer Will Impress Fans This Season

While “everybody knows about [tight end] Dalton Kincaid and andShakir,” Allen told Heavy Sports, he also singled out Joshua Palmer as someone who will surprise fans this season.

Josh Palmer

Palmer, who spent the first four years of his career with the Los Angeles Chargers, signed a three-year, $29 million contract with Buffalo this offseason.

“He’s been another guy that’s shown a lot of really good flashes throughout training camp,” Allen said. “I had a good rapport with him. I have a good relationship with all my teammates, but you know, he’s constantly coming over and asking questions of what he can do better, throwing after practice. So I think those two guys [Coleman and Palmer] are going to be really freaking good.”

The third-round pick from the 2021 NFL draft appeared in 15 games and made seven starts with the Chargers last season. Palmer registered 39 receptions for 584 yards and one touchdown.

Bills QB Josh Allen Sent A Strong Message on WR Tyrell Shavers

After two years on the practice squad, Bills Mafia was thrilled to see wide receiver Tyrell Shavers make it onto the 53-man roster. Allen is also happy for the 26-year-old, however, the quarterback also knows Shavers has a lot more to prove.

“I was unbelievably happy,” he said of Shavers making the team. “He’s one of the best humans in the world. He’s worked extremely hard. I’ve seen him over the last couple years, really grow his game and become a really good football player.

“But his goal is not just to make 53, it’s to make an impact on the game. So he’s gonna continue to keep working hard and find ways that we can get him on the field and make some plays for us. I’m very, very proud of him.”
