Incoming terror.
Prickly Pete Prisco of CBS has been banging the drum for Bucs 2023 first-round pick Calijah Kancey. Prisco has gone so far as to anoint Kancey as a [future NFL superstar](https://www.joebucsfan.com/2025/08/380793/), and that this year, Kancey will become known throughout the NFL as a beast to fear.
Joe told Kancey about Prisco’s prediction. Kancey wasn’t familiar with who Prisco was, but after hearing that Prisco was pimping Kancey, he said he’d do some research on Prisco.
Kancey was humbled by Prisco’s prediction.
Joe always thinks of Warren Sapp or Aaron Donald or Mean Joe Greene as a defensive tackle “superstar.” So far, Coke hasn’t contacted Kancey about a nationwide advertising campaign.
But Kancey did tell Joe that it’s Year 3 for him. And it is time for him to dominate.
> “You know, that’s what you want to do as a Year 3 guy,” Kancey said. “You want to kind of make your statement in this game.
>
> “I pretty much was able to tease a little bit of what I’ve got.”
In Kancey’s first two seasons, he missed most of training camp with a calf injury each summer. He did play a handful of snaps against Minnesota in the 2023 season opener, but if anything, he reaggravated his calf injury and missed the next three games.
Last year, Kancey missed the first five games of the season. When Kancey returned, he was a beast. He had 7.5 sacks in 12 games.
Now entering a regular season healthy for a change, Kancey has high goals.
> “So now I’m going into a healthy year,” Kancey said. “I expect nothing but big things for myself. So I’m looking forward to this season.”
If Kancey can average the same number of sacks per game as he did last year (0.625) and plays a full season, 17 games, Kancey will have a dozen sacks.
Joe is going to guess if Kancey is having that sort of production, either Haason Reddick and/or YaYa Diaby are also hounding quarterbacks at a brisk pace, too.
