Manchester United could reduce the size of their squad despite the Premier League transfer window being closed

Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana has yet to agree a move to Turkey after the Red Devils agreed to send him on loan to Trabzonspor for the duration of the 2025-26 campaign.

Ruben Amorim has four goalkeepers at his disposal after the deadline day arrival of Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp. The goalkeeper is set to compete for a number one spot with Altay Bayındır while Onana is deemed surplus to requirements. Tom Heaton is third choice after penning a one-year deal a few months ago.

Fabrizio Romano shares what is happening with Andre Onana’s proposed Man Utd exit

“It is a deal until the end of the season, the agreement club-to-club is done.”

However, the transfer guru insisted Onana’s decision had not yet been made, as he added: “What is needed now is the green light from the player. Onana has to decide his future soon, if he wants to stay in Europe and continue at Manchester United - competing his spot with Senne Lammens and Altay Bayındır - or move to Turkey and be a regular starter at Trabzonspor.

“He has to decide as soon as possible. Trabzonspor are waiting for Onana.”

Senne Lammens says Man Utd switch is “dream move”

Lammens will be eager to make the number one spot at Old Trafford. Given the club has agreed to Onana’s exit, the Cameroon international is unlikely to be Ruben Amorim’s number one moving forward - even if he rejects the loan to Turkey.

Speaking about his switch to United, Lammens said: “This is my dream move. When I was five, United was at the height of football and you keep in your memory how big Manchester United is, so, when I heard they were interested, it was like a childhood dream.

“I remember being a kid, Manchester United winning the Champions League and winning the league, and also [I want] to help the team get to a level that you can compete for a title again and to play Champions League again. That’s also one of my biggest points, that I want to grow with the team and go up to the heights that used to be Manchester United.

“It’s one of the biggest clubs in the world and the Premier League is the biggest competition in the world.”
