Top 5 Highest-Scoring Players In FPL This Season–Should We Completely Change Our Strategy?

After the first three games of the season, FPL players are likely cursing at their team selections and ready to change everything.

The likes of Ollie Watkins, Florian Wirtz, Cole Palmer and Bukayo Saka have all been quiet in FPL terms, leading many managers to use their wildcard early or make multiple transfers, something that is usually not advised.

However, there are some names who have been producing for FPL, although, many managers will be shocked to find out who they are, and it perhaps indicates that we should all change our strategy as to how we select our teams, and who we start every week.

Scroll down to see who the top five highest-scoring players are in FPL, and why it may mean you should prioritise defenders rather than expensive midfielders and attackers.

5. Marcos Senesi, Bournemouth – 25 points

Firstly, Senesi is owned at just 4.9%, and at a cheap price of £4.6m, it is begs the question of why everyone doesn’t have him in their teams.

He has accumulated 25 points so far, and that mainly comes from defensive contributions and clean sheets, with the 28-year-old managing just one assist in terms of attacking returns. An incredibly valuable defender to have in your team.

4. Joao Pedro, Chelsea – 26 points

The only non-defender on this list, and the only player to be owned by a large majority of people, Pedro is one of the few big name attackers who has worked out so far.

He’s scored two goals, and provided two assists in his first three league games for Enzo Maresca’s side, and so it comes as no surprise that he’s owned by almost 64% of FPL managers.

3. Jurrien Timber, Arsenal – 26 points

Timber‘s impressive points tally mainly rests on the 5-0 win against Leeds United, as the defender managed to score two goals and provide one assist in that match.

However, as a reliable option for defensive contributions points, it is slightly surprising that more players don’t own him at 8.9%, although he is slightly more expensive at a cost of £5.6m.

2. Trevoh Chalobah, Chelsea – 27 points

Why, why in the world, do more people not own Chalobah. He is a starting centre-back in a good team, with a very reliable string of defensive contributions points, and he’s priced at £5.1m: Only 6.4% of managers own him.

His minutes are well nailed until Levi Colwill returns from his injury, but that shouldn’t be until 2026, so make sure to get the most out of Chalobah now.

1. Riccardo Calafiori, Arsenal – 28 points

The fact that four of the top five scoring players in FPL are defenders, mean that we should maybe begin to prioritise defensive players more, as defensive contributions points are clearly making a difference.

Calafiori has one goal and two assists in three games for Arsenal so far this season, and Mikel Arteta seems to be starting him over Myles Lewis-Skelly so far, so his minutes are expected to be fairly nailed.

His price has already gone up to £5.7m, and it is no wonder seeing as he’s the highest-scoring player in FPL this season.
