As the 2025/26 Barclays Women’s Super League season prepares for kick-off, West Ham United Women are ready for a season of growth - including right here on KUMB.com!
Under the guidance of head coach Rehanne Skinner, the squad has undergone a series of changes with several new players added while others have gone out on loan to gain crucial playing time and experience.
New staff have been introduced, all of these to hopefully produce a better finish in the table come the end of the season.
With a busy transfer window now complete, West Ham Women have made several notable additions to their squad. These signings are crucial for bolstering their chances of success as they aim to improve their standings in the league.
This season, fans can expect to see how seasoned players mesh with the promising newcomers. Among the new signings, there are a few who stand out.
One key signing has been the recent acquisition of 19-year-old Swiss international, Leila Wandeler. Her youth brings energy to the squad and expectations are high. The potential of this young talent could prove be a driving force for West Ham during the coming campaign.
Meanwhile 25-year-old Welsh striker Ffion Morgan is another exciting signing to boost Skinner's options up front. She's comfortable playing across the front three, can stretch defences with intelligent movement and link up well with midfielders to create chances.
Her previous experience at Bristol City, where she was a key contributor, along with her international experience including a turn at this summer's Euros means she can handle pressure in the WSL and offer a reliable goal threat.
Team dynamics will also play a crucial role in determining West Ham's success this season. Following the addition of new signings, Skinner's squad have worked hard during pre-season to build a bond and establish the key roles within.
A number of local derbies are also expected to raise interest in the team and add excitement to the 2025/26 WSL season.
Clashes with the likes of Tottenham, Arsenal and Chelsea should draw significant crowds and provide an opportunity for the Hammers - who will once again play their home matches at Dagenham & Redbridge's Chigwell Construction Stadium - to showcase their development and improvement.
Winning any - or all! - these matches would be a huge morale booster for the team. Key derby dates include Tottenham (a) as the opening game of the season - a match being broadcast live on Sunday by SkySports (12pm kick-off); Arsenal (h) next Friday, 12 September; Chelsea (h) on Sunday, 28 September; Chelsea (a) on 11 January; Tottenham (h) on 1 February and, finally, Arsenal (a) on 21 March.
In addition to seasoned players, young talent has been pivotal in shaping this season's squad. The club's strong academy system, which echoes the men's set-up is continually churning out promising players.
Looking at the WSL as a whole, the competitive nature of the league has ramped up over the past few seasons. More clubs are investing in their women's teams resulting in higher-quality football. This evolution has made it essential for West Ham Women to continue adapting in order to stay competitive.
The upcoming months present an exciting opportunity for West Ham Women as they prepare for the forthcoming campaign. With new signings poised to make an impact, established veterans leading the charge and promising young talent emerging, the team is on the cusp of what will hopefully prove to be both an exciting and productive season.
The stage is set for a season filled with potential, and the anticipation for what lies ahead is palpable. And you can keep up with all the developments right here on KUMB as part of our improved coverage of the Women's team, which includes a brand new dedicated discussion forum.
