Saudi sides keeping tabs on Man United defender

The Premier League returns next weekend with the Manchester derby the pick of the round of games.

Both Manchester United and Manchester City have endured difficult starts to the new league season, with the Red Devils sitting ninth in the table while the Citizens occupy 13th place.

Ruben Amorim’s side picked up their first victory of the campaign last time out, when Bruno Fernandes converted a late penalty to secure a 3-2 win against Burnley at Old Trafford.

Since then, it has emerged that clubs in Saudi Arabia are showing a keen interest in one of United’s defenders.

According to CaughtOffside, both Al-Ahli and Al-Nassr are monitoring United centre-back Harry Maguire.

It is claimed that the two Saudi Pro League sides are weighing up offers in the region of £13 million for the Englishman, who joined United from Leicester City back in 2019.

Since then the 32-year-old has made 249 appearances for the club across all competitions, although he has been heavily criticised at times for poor performances.

Over the past couple of seasons the Englishman has struggled to cement himself as a guaranteed starter, making just two substitute appearances in. United’s first three Premier League games of the new campaign.

Al Ahli’s interest in the England international is said to stem from uncertainty surrounding the future of Merih Demiral, who has been heavily linked with a move to the Turkish Super Lig.

The transfer window remains open for clubs in both Saudi Arabia and Turkey, which could allow Maguire to depart Old Trafford in the coming days.

Maguire is currently contracted to the Red Devils until the end of the current campaign, but it appears that United may have the opportunity to cash in on the defender this summer.
