Former Manchester United star Christian Eriksen has come under fire for spending his time as a free agent training with Malmo.

The criticism comes from ex-Denmark international and former Real Madrid midfielder Thomas Gravesen, who has questioned Eriksen's ambitions.

Eriksen, 33, left Old Trafford at the end of the season when his contract expired.

Without a club to call home, he has been maintaining his fitness by training with Swedish side Malmo.

Despite being free to negotiate with potential clubs since the start of the year, the former Spurs player is yet to secure a new team.

Eriksen was overlooked for Denmark's World Cup qualifiers against Scotland and Greece, despite scoring in June friendlies against Northern Ireland and Lithuania.

It's reported that he declined an offer to join Wrexham, while Burnley were also said to be interested in signing him amidst competition from across Europe.

Although the transfer window has closed, as a free agent, Eriksen can still find a new club.

Gravesen is shocked at Eriksen's current arrangements.

While Eriksen is training with Malmo, it seems unlikely he'll sign with them as they've already submitted their Europa League squad, reports the Mirror.

In a recent interview with Fotboll Skanalen, Gravesen expressed his disbelief: "It is incomprehensible to me that he chooses Malmo," he said.

"It is not a club that he can go to because he cannot sign a contract with them and we have some clubs in Denmark that are much, much better than Malmo.

"This looks like a friendly thing, where Christian Eriksen is over and having fun with some friends. Where is the ambition to play football?

"We talk about him being without a club for three months, but he has been without a club since January because he has been able to sign a contract with a new club ever since. He has been dragging his feet on it for a long time.

"If he wants to play for the national team, what signal does this send? What signal does going up and having fun with friends in Malmo send?

"I don't understand it. It seems frivolous in some ways. If he had ambitions, he would have gone to a higher-level club.

"For me, it is not ambitious enough to go to Malmo and have fun. Who sees him there?"
