It only took six seconds for one of the best defensive tackles in football to get ejected. Philadelphia Eagles starJalen Carter was tossed out for spitting at Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott. Of course, that move was heavily criticized and Carter had every right to be thrown of the game.
After the 24–20 loss, Prescott defended himself by saying he aimed at the ground, unlike Carter, who fired directly at his jersey. Carter showed zero emotional control and got himself thrown out, putting his teammates in a tough spot defensively. After the game, he issued an apology to fans and players, but noticeably left out Prescott, the player he blatantly disrespected
"I feel bad for my teammates and the fans out there. I’m doing it for them," Carter said, via NFL Network's Mike Garafolo.
Jalen Carter apologized to everyone except Cowboys QB Dak Prescott
Carter’s apology might sit well with Eagles fans, after all, they won the game. But for Cowboys fans, it completely falls flat. He said he felt bad for “just” his teammates and his fans, leaving out the opponent he disrespected. Even after getting ejected, Carter looked to the sky with a smile, almost in disbelief. All of it is an encapsulation of just how deep this rivalry runs.
Cowboys fans wish they could be surprised, but they’ve seen this script before. The Eagles rivalry has reached a boiling point, and the bad blood runs deep. Marist Liufau had his helmet ripped off by Cooper DeJean in a scrum, but only two penalties went against Dallas. Scuffles after the whistle kept piling up, but hey, that’s just your regular Cowboys-Eagles affair.
Carter’s actions were flat-out disrespectful, and Cowboys fans are already calling for the NFL to step in. His apology may have been meant for his teammates, but by ignoring his opponent, he missed the mark completely.
That only adds more fuel to the fire ahead of his Nov. 23 return to Arlington, where the Cowboys faithful will be ready to boo him the second he takes the field.
