New York Jets elevate veteran receiver for Pittsburgh Steelers game

The New York Jets are elevating wide receiver Tyler Johnson from the practice squad to the active roster for their game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. That gives the Jets six active wide receivers on their roster.

Johnson was by the Jets during final cut downs but joined the practice squad. Now, the veteran will get a chance to showcase what he can do with the team against the Steelers.

An undrafted free agent out of Minnesota in the 2020 NFL Draft, Johnson has been around the block for a few seasons. He started his career with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2020 and 2021, then moved on to the Houston Texans, and spent the last two seasons with the Los Angeles Rams.

Now, he is on the Jets and hopes to prove what he can do. In 48 career games, Johnson has 76 receptions for 828 yards and four touchdowns. He put up a solid year a season ago, posting 26 receptions for 291 yards as the fourth wide receiver on the Rams’ depth chart.

In addition to elevating him, they also placed offensive lineman Alijah Vera-Tucker on injured reserve with a torn triceps muscle that is expected to end his season.
