Former Seahawks coach Pete Carroll has a little dose of Seattle on his new roster with quarterback Geno Smith set to be the Raiders’ starting quarterback. Las Vegas also added running back Ashton Jeanty with the No. 6 overall pick of the 2025 NFL Draft, perhaps with a blueprint in place to build a Raiders offense to thrive just as Seattle’s did under Carroll with Marshawn Lynch pounding the rock. The Raiders were just 4-13 last season and lost 10 straight games in the middle portion of the season, which prompted the pivot to Carroll and an effort to try and reverse a franchise trend of missing the playoffs 20 times in the past 22 years.

The Patriots turn to a familiar face to lead a hopeful return to prominence, naming former Patriots standout Mike Vrabel their head coach for the 2025 season after moving on from Jerod Mayo after just one season. New England does have a potential franchise quarterback in the fold in Drake Maye, a former first-round pick, and goes into the season with four key new building blocks along the offensive line. Defensively, the Patriots spent big money in free agency to add defensive tackle Milton Williams and linebackers Robert Spillane and Harold Landry, among others, with hopes of getting back to the Patriots’ priorities to run the ball and play sound defense.

The Raiders and Patriots are set for a 1 p.m. ET start on CBS. Live streams are available from DirecTV (free trial) and FuboTV (low intro rate).

The game will also stream on Paramount+.
