Josh Sargent was the subject of intense speculation over the summer, but Norwich City kept their star man. Based on the latest reports on Burnley’s offer for the striker, it’s not surprising he stayed put.
After a brilliant campaign in 2024/25 on an individual level, and Norwich City’s failure to get promoted, there was always going to be rumours around Josh Sargent’s future.
The hitman was linked with a move to the Bundesliga, while top flight interest in Sargent came from Sunderland, Burnley, and previously Everton, too.
However, the Canaries held onto Sargent in a huge boost to Liam Manning’s efforts to get Norwich up this season.

Burnley’s laughable offer for Josh Sargent
We know Sargent is happy at Norwich and feels like he’s in the right place to score goals and earn a World Cup spot for the USA. However, a new report from Alan Nixon has revealed just how far away Sargent was from being sold to Burnley this summer.
Apparently, the Clarets sent a shocking offer to Norwich which was worth an initial, guaranteed £1.5m. The deal would have included what Nixon described as “complicated extras” that would have brought the final value close to £10m.
As you may expect, that was “nowhere near” Norwich’s £20m valuation for Sargent. Wolfsburg did make a serious offer for the player, but that move didn’t come to fruition.
We had revealed two months ago that Norwich wanted around £20m for Sargent, and after his impressive start to the season, it’s no wonder.

Keeping Josh Sargent almost guarantees Norwich City a play-off spot
Norwich were one of the big winners of the transfer window in the Championship having kept hold of Sargent. He’s a player who certainly deserves to be playing in the top flight, but now he’s staying with Norwich, that’s a dream that could well come true next season.
After scoring six goals in five games this season, Norwich fans have hailed Sargent as a ‘cheat code’. If he keeps up this kind of goalscoring form, the Canaries will surely land in the play-offs at the very least.
Obviously, Manning needs to get his whole team playing well more consistently if that is to happen. Sargent is one of the best players in the Championship, but he can’t deliver promotion singlehandedly.
One thing’s for sure, if Norwich don’t get promoted again this term, Sargent will find another way to play in the top flight for 2026/27.
