Leeds United's summer recruit Jaka Bijol has been hammered in the Slovenian media after a mistake made in his country's 2-2 draw with Sweden in World Cup qualifying.
The Swedes started with a front two of Arsenal striker Viktor Gyokeres and Newcastle man Anthony Elanga with Bijol partnering Zenit St Petersburg's Vanja Drkusic in the heart of the hosts' defence. However, the 26-year-old had a night to forget as he played a part in conceding his country's second of the evening.
After a long ball forward, Bijol failed to control the ball, allowing the visitors to break down the right-hand side before crossing to allow Yasin Ayari to score. Fortunately for the Leeds man, his blushes would be spared just before second-half stoppage time when disruptive play from Benjamin Sesko allowed Zan Vipotnik to fire home the equaliser.
Despite their country rescuing a point late on, Bijol was not spared in the post-match ratings from Sportsdunia. Handing him a match rating of 5.5 out of 10, the media outlet stated: "A game he’ll want to forget.
"He made a glaring error that led directly to a goal, which completely undermined his other contributions. Despite making five interceptions, that single moment of madness cost his team dearly.
"He looked shaky and bereft of confidence after that." Fortunately for Bijol, he has the chance to improve his opinion among the Slovenian press on Monday night when he travels with his teammates to Switzerland for their second World Cup qualifier of the break.
It has been a tough start to life at Leeds for Bijol so far. He missed the opening game of the season against Everton due to a suspension which transitioned over from his time at Udinese.
Bijol returned for the trip to Arsenal and home clash with Newcastle but he has been an unused substitute in those matches. His only appearance of the campaign came in the Carabao Cup as Leeds lost to a beleaguered Sheffield Wednesday on penalties.
The Whites return to action in the Premier League on Saturday when they travel to Fulham.
