Manchester United heeded Harry Maguire's transfer plea after the defender demanded major changes during the summer window.

The 32-year-old predicted there would be "a lot of changes" occurring throughout the transfer window and was vindicated when Ruben Amorim overhauled the frontline of his squad. United transformed their attacking options by securing Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha and Benjamin Sesko for a total outlay of approximately £200million.

Although Sesko, 22, was the final arrival at Old Trafford, all three signings could reasonably be considered integral to Amorim's preferred starting lineup. The same could be said of goalkeeper Senne Lammens, who joined from Royal Antwerp on deadline day.

The Belgian has yet to feature between the sticks for United but is expected to become the new number one given the doubts surrounding current shot-stoppers Andre Onana, who has reportedly agreed a loan switch to Trabzonspor, and Altay Bayindir.

Even more significant, though, are United's exits, with no fewer than 12 players departing the club either on permanent or temporary deals. Wingers Antony and Alejandro Garnacho secured permanent moves, whilst Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Rasmus Hojlund have all left on loan arrangements.

The Red Devils have made a sluggish start to the campaign, but Amorim cannot claim he hasn't been given the tools to stamp his authority on the side. Maguire has also achieved his objective after pressing the club to act decisively during the summer transfer window.

Speaking in May, Maguire said: "We will make a lot of changes in the summer at the club. There will be a lot of players who leave and hopefully a lot of players will come in.

"And that's down to the club to make sure they get that right, and it's down to us players to make sure that we are the ones that are involved."

United were expected to be strapped for cash this summer after finishing 15th in the Premier League last term. That, combined with their loss to Tottenham in the Europa League final, meant they missed out on European competition for the first time in a decade. However, a net expenditure of approximately £160m demonstrated the war chest was far from bare.

Maguire, meanwhile, has found himself excluded from Amorim's starting lineup at the beginning of this campaign, managing only two Premier League substitute appearances so far.

Amorim has favoured a defensive trio of Leny Yoro, Luke Shaw and Matthijs de Ligt, whilst Lisandro Martinez continues his recovery from the severe knee injury he sustained in February.
