Manchester United goalkeeper is keen on a move to Trabzonspor, with the Red Devils agreeing a deal with the Turkish club, according to Fabrizio Romano.
Despite the English summer transfer window closing earlier this week, some clubs around Europe are able to complete deals, with windows remaining open in other countries such as Turkey. It's an opportunity for clubs such as United to offload some of their deadwood, but there is the caveat that they are unable to replace them.
The goalkeeper position has been a bit of an issue for United over the last few years, with Altay Bayindir and Onana their options heading into the 2025/2026 season.
Fabrizio Romano: Man Utd Exit Update on Andre Onana
Andre Onana
Andre Onana
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano has confirmed that the deal for Onana to join Trabzonspor has 'very, very good chances' to happen, and he expects a deal to take place before the Turkish transfer window closes. Onana is keen on a move to Turkey, with the two clubs having an agreement in place for a loan deal...
"My understanding is that the deal for Andre Onana to Trabzonspor has very, very, very good chances to happen. My expectation is for the deal to happen. Let's say like this. The deal is being negotiated on player side, but there is an agreement, as exclusively told you yesterday, Manchester United and Trabzonspor for a loan deal, and no buy option clause, no loan fee. So the agreement club to club with Man Utd and Trabzonspor is done. What I can tell you is that Andre Onana is open to that possibility, open to joining Trabzonspor, open to trying a new opportunity. And so now it's about the contract details."
It's no surprise that United have sanctioned a departure for Onana after a disappointing spell with the club since joining from Inter Milan. Ruben Amorim's side brought in Senne Lammens in the summer transfer window, casting further doubt over the future of Onana at Old Trafford.
It's unclear whether Lammens will come straight in and be United's number one goalkeeper, but the sale of Onana would certainly narrow down the options. Bayindir has started in the Premier League this season, while Lammens does have a lack of experience, especially at a high level, so there's no guarantee he will be an immediate success in the Premier League.
