Turnaround complete: Barca defender to sign long-term deal after'winning Flick's trust'

Barcelona defender Eric Garcia is reportedly preparing to sign a new deal at Camp Nou until June 2030.

Last season, there was widespread speculation surrounding Garcia's future, and it looked likely that the Spaniard would leave the Catalan outfit in January or at the end of the campaign.

However, the 24-year-old has earned the trust of head coach Hansi Flick, starting all three of the team's La Liga matches this season, playing as a right-back against Mallorca and Levante before taking to the field as a right-back in the clash with Rayo Vallecano last time out.

Garcia's existing deal with Barcelona is due to expire next summer, and a number of clubs are believed to be keeping a close eye on his situation with the La Liga champions.

However, the speculation surrounding the defender's future could soon come to an end.

According to Sport, Garcia is preparing to sign a new contract at Camp Nou until the summer of 2030.

Garcia 'to sign new Barcelona deal' until June 2030

The report claims that Barcelona will announce a new contract before the end of the year, as Garcia, as it stands, would be able to discuss a pre-contract with foreign clubs in January 2026.

Garcia represented Barcelona as a youth player between 2008 and 2017 before making the move to Manchester City, and he turned out for the Citizens on 35 occasions before returning to Barcelona.

The Spaniard has since made 117 appearances for the La Liga champions, including 45 outings last term, which proved to be his most successful campaign for the Catalan side.

Eyebrows have been raised early in the season with Flick deciding to name Garcia at right-back ahead of Jules Kounde, as the France international was a key player during the 2024-25 campaign.

Which other Barcelona players are out of contract in June 2026?

Barcelona have four other players out of contract next summer, with Frenkie de Jong, Robert Lewandowski, Andreas Christensen and Marc Bernal only having deals until June 2026.

However, Bernal's deal is set to be extended for three years next summer, while the expectation is that De Jong will come to an agreement with the Catalan side over a new contract.

Christensen could leave on a free transfer, while the future of Lewandowski is unclear, but there is the option to activate a 12-month extension until the summer of 2027.

Barcelona also have a decision to make on the future of Marcus Rashford, with the attacker on loan from Manchester United until next summer; the Catalan outfit can sign the Englishman permanently for a fee in the region of £30m, but a recent report claimed that he could return to Old Trafford early.
