Pittsburgh Steelers rule out five players against Jets, including promising rookie pass rusher

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- The Pittsburgh Steelers have ruled out five players against the New York Jets. At the top of that list is defensive lineman Derrick Harmon who will not play with an MCL sprain.

The Steelers ruled Harmon out at the start of the week and he seems to still be a ways away from playing. He is week-to-week after suffering the injury against the Carolina Panthers in the Steelers’ final preseason game.

Outside linebacker Nick Herbig will not play with a hamstring injury. He was limited all week, but the team will stay on the safe side with him so he does not aggravate that injury.

The Steelers, who have ten offensive linemen on the active roster, will also have two of those linemen inactive. Guard Max Scharping and offensive lineman Andrus Peat will not play. Pittsburgh will move forward with Calvin Anderson as their swing tackle despite him missing significant time in the preseason.

Meanwhile, defensive lineman Ezesi Otomewo will not play, and Logan Lee has won that battle to be the team’s sixth defensive linemen.

Quarterback Skylar Thompson was questionable coming into the game after suffering a hamstring injury in Friday’s practice, but he will be the team’s third quarterback.

For the Jets, wide receiver Allen Lazard is a surprising healthy scratch.
