Sister of Naz Reid fatally shot in New Jersey

Toraya Reid, the 28-year-old sister of Timberwolves star Naz Reid, was shot and killed Saturday in New Jersey.

A New Jersey prosecutor charged Shaquille Green, whom the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office said was in a relationship with Toraya Reid, with her murder. Sources familiar with the situation confirmed Toraya Reid’s death to the Minnesota Star Tribune.

Green, 29, was also charged with unlawful possession of a weapon. He remains in custody at an eastern New Jersey jail.

Naz Reid, the 26-year-old player whose charisma and skill has generated a [cult following](https://www.startribune.com/timberwolves-naz-reid-cult-following-chip-scoggins/600317108) among Timberwolves fans, has spoken fondly about his family before. Reid and his sisters grew up in Asbury Park, N.J.

In a 2023 interview with [Mpls.St.Paul Magazine](https://mspmag.com/arts-and-culture/in-conversation-with-naz-reid/), Naz Reid mentioned his sisters Toraya and Jakahya, calling his older sister “super protective.”

“She treats us like she’s our parent,” he said.

According to the local prosecutor’s office:

Jackson Township police officers received a call at about 11 a.m. Saturday about an unresponsive woman in the road at an apartment.
