Green Bay Packers injured wide receiver expected to play Week 1 vs Detroit Lions

The Green Bay Packers are just a few hours away from kicking off their 2025 NFL season with a fierce matchup against the Detroit Lions, who have won the NFC North in each of the past two seasons. The game, of course, has been getting a great deal of national attention lately due to Green Bay’s trade for former Dallas Cowboys star Micah Parsons a week and a half ago.

But one of the sub-stories of the high-profile trade and extension has been that Parsons is dealing a sprained back. For a while, many wondered if the newest Packers star would even be able to play in Week One given this injury and the fact that he did not participate in training camp.

Green Bay revealed, however, that Parsons will play against Detroit, albeit on limited snaps. Additionally, another Packers star is expected to play despite a concerning injury of his own.

Earlier in training camp, the Packers revealed that their star wide receiver, Jayden Reed, had a Jones fracture in his foot. This kind of fracture is the result of repetitive stress or force and are extremely painful. It takes about 6-12 weeks for a Jones fracture to heal.

Reed missed several days of practice and preseason games, but returned to practice this past week, determined to play through the injury. However, he was listed as questionable on the latest injury report.

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, though, Reed is expected to play against the Lions:

Reed, entering his third season in the NFL, led the Packers in both receptions and receiving yards in each of the past two seasons.

As a rookie in 2023, he set the franchise record for receptions by a rookie wide receiver with 64, breaking now Pro Football Hall of Famer Sterling Sharpe’s record of 55. Last season, Reed had 55 receptions for 857 yards and six touchdowns, becoming just the fourth player in franchise history with 100 receptions, 1,000 receiving yards, and 10 touchdowns in his first two seasons.

Romeo Doubs, Sharpe, and James Lofton are the other three.
