SPRINGFIELD, MA (WGGB/WSHM) - Kids got to practice how to shoot a perfect three pointer with some special coaches at the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame. On Saturday, a junior NBA clinic was held for local children.
The goal of the clinic was to teach young athletes fundamental skills and values in a Basketball game, such as teamwork, dribbling, defense, and sportsmanship.
Western Mass News spoke with one coach, Talibah Murff, to hear more on what the clinic was all about, “we’re just taking them through a bunch of skills and drills. So we went through defense, past defense. We’re teaching them the fundamentals of how to actually play defense the correct way. We’re intentional about that because a lot of people just think about playing offense, so we’re intentional about making sure we cover every aspect of the basketball game.”
Murff also told Western Mass News that her favorite part about being a coach is getting to mentor to the kids at the clinic. “We want to make sure that we prepare them for every level. We have the youngest who which is six all the way up to fourteen. So, we’re intentional about making sure that we teach to the entire group but also teach to the individual. So, we’re challenging them based on our basketball IQ, and what we want to see them accomplish.”
