West Ham still have five spare squad places – here’s why

After the closure of the summer 2025 transfer window, each [Premier League](https://www.claretandhugh.info/special-one-sacked-mourinhos-words-point-at-premier-league-return-west-ham-news/) club must submit their squad lists.

Each squad contains no more than 17 players who do not fulfil the “Home Grown Player” (HGP) criteria. The rest of the squad, up to a total of 25 players, must be “Home Grown”.

Those who are 21 or under before the start of the season do not need to be included as you can play an unlimited number of under-21 players.

These squad lists are set to be published by the Premier League this coming week.

West Ham appears to have a squad of 20 players with 9 homegrown players, leaving five spare squad places unfilled.
