Leeds United are said to be pursuing a move for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain after the midfielder became a free agent.

The 32-year-old had his contract with Turkish side Besiktas terminated in August, despite originally being tied down until 2026.

The Turkish club reportedly paid him around £1.5m to bring his deal to an early conclusion. Since he's currently without a club, Oxlade-Chamberlain can be snapped up outside the transfer window, which shut earlier this week.

The former Premier League winner with Liverpool is believed to be desperate for a return to English football, with Leeds among the sides showing interest, though they face competition from Championship rivals Birmingham City.

Transfer correspondent Pete O'Rourke told Football Insider: "Oxlade-Chamberlain is available as well. A number of clubs have been having a look at him.

"He's got a great CV, played for Arsenal and Liverpool, he's a Champions League and Premier League winner from his time at Liverpool.

"Now that he's left Besiktas, clubs have been put on alert by his availability. There's interest from clubs in the Premier League, Championship and across Europe as well, with Leeds and Birmingham among them.

"So I'm sure he'd be ready to return to England after a couple of years away, and I expect there will be some movement on his future soon."

On the plus side, Daniel Farke's team wouldn't be taking a risk with a transfer fee, as the ex-Liverpool ace is available on a free transfer. The main concern would be his wages.

Reports suggest that Oxlade-Chamberlain was earning £65,000 per week in Turkey, almost half of the £125,000 he was pulling in at Anfield.
