Everyone said the same thing about Russell Wilson in Week 1

New York Giants quarterback Russell Wilson entered the 2025 season with a promising rookie breathing down his neck, and fans were quick to remind him of that when he struggled early on in Week 1.

Wilson looked uncomfortable in the pocket throughout much of the Giants’ game against the Washington Commanders on Sunday at Northwest Stadium in Landover, Md. The 36-year-old took a pair of sacks early and at one point late in the third quarter was averaging a measly 4.0 yards per attempt.

Fans almost immediately began calling for the Giants to give Jaxson Dart a look.

If this is the version of the Giants we are gonna get this season, we are gonna see Jaxson Dart starting very fast lol

Pathetic. If this offense doesn’t improve we will see Jaxson Dart by Week 3.

There was a report ahead of Sunday’s game that the Giants might not be patient with Wilson, as they were very impressed with what they saw from Dart in training camp and the preseason. Brian Daboll’s staff has also put together a package of plays for Dart that could be used even while Wilson is New York’s starting quarterback.

Wilson signed with the Giants this offseason knowing that he had a clear path to the starting job. The team then traded up to draft Dart, who went 32/47 for 372 yards, 3 touchdowns and no interceptions in the preseason.

Daboll held to his word by naming Wilson the Giants’ starter fairly early in the offseason, but fans are going to get restless very quickly if Wilson does not play well.
