Here are some live updates from the Las Vegas Raiders game at the New England Patriots on Sunday:
* The Raiders got the ball first and on the first play, quarterback Geno Smith hit superstar tight end Brock Bowers for a 23-yard reception tp get into New England territory. Then, rookie Ashton Jeanty went nine yards on his first carry. Lots of firepower with Bowers and Jeanty. Then, Smith hit a wide open Tre Tucker for a touchdown on third down and 11. What a start for this new-look offense.
* The Patriots took the ensuing kickoff 41 yards to create excellent field position for quarterback Drake Maye. However, New England went three-and-out.
* The Raiders moved the ball on their second drive with big pass plays from Smith to receivers Jakobi Meyers and rookie Jach Bech. Smith had 109 yards passing in the quarter up to that point. But he threw his second questionable pass of the series and it was intercepted deep in Patriots’ territory.
* The Patriots went down the field on a long drive after the pick. Maxx Crosby did get a sack, but it was a tough drive. Also, linebacker Elandon Roberts was injured on the drive. The drive ended with a game-tying touchdown by New England.
* The Raiders, who were three-for-three on third down in the first quarter, went three-and-out after the Patriots touchdown and Smith was sacked on third down.
* The Patriots moved the ball, but the Raiders made a couple of plays and a New England penalty stalled the drive that needed with an unsuccessful 40-yard field-goal attempt.
* The Raiders had another three-and-out. The offense has stalled since that Smith pick.
* Tommy Eichenberg replaced Roberts at middle linebacker.
* The Patriots kicked a field goal just after the two-minute warning to take a 10-7 lead. this could be worse.
