Following one of the greatest rookie seasons of all time, Las Vegas Raiders tight end Brock Bowers opened his second season with another star performance despite a late-game injury.
Bowers finished Sunday’s Week 1 win over the Patriots with five catches for 103 yards en route to a 20-13 win.
Bowers, however, left the game in the fourth quarter with knee injury. He was initially reported as being questionable to return.
Raiders coach Pete Carroll was asked about his level of concern for Bowers’ injury during the postgame availability.
“They’re looking at his knee,” said Carroll, who won his Raiders’ debut Sunday. “He wanted to go back in and they wouldn’t let him go back in. They thought, let’s watch the game, see how it goes; we didn’t have to do that. But he’s an incredible player. So, yeah, we need to have him."
Bowers set a new NFL rookie record for any position in 2024 when he recorded 112 receptions. He also had 1,194 yards — a rookie TE record — and five TDs.
The Raiders host the Chargers on Monday, Sept. 15 at 10 p.m.
