At this point, San Francisco 49ers kicker Jake Moody might be out of the job before the clock runs out on the Niners' Week 1 regular-season opener against the Seattle Seahawks.
Moody missed his first attempt of the young season, a would-be easy 27-yard try that was described by the Fox broadcasting crew as a "chip shot." The ball dunked off the left upright and denied the Niners what would have been a 10-7 lead heading toward halftime.
Instead, the Hawks marched back down the field and made a field goal of their own, a 48-yarder by Jason Myers that seemed to be an open insult to San Francisco's own placekicker.

At halftime, head coach Kyle Shanahan told Fox Sports' Pam Oliver he had "no words" about Moody, stressing the simple need to make his kicks.
That isn't happening. Shanahan even denied Moody a follow-up chance for retribution in the third quarter the next time the Niners faced fourth down within field-goal range.
49ers have to admit their mistake with Jake Moody now
Moody surprisingly won the offseason kicking competition against Greg Joseph, although Shanahan pointed out it was due more to his team's injuries and the need for roster spots than anything else.
That said, nothing can shake the 2023 Round 3 NFL Draft choice's horrid finish to 2024 in which he completed just a shade over 70 percent of his field-goal attempts and looked every part the highly drafted kicking bust.
Despite changing his mechanics, Moody still had a shaky preseason after winning the job.
Fans have assuredly seen enough.
Moody has been on the hot seat for some time now, and even Shanahan admitted as much after Joseph was released earlier during training camp.
After a brutal miss to open up his 2025 kicking campaign, Moody might not have a job much longer at all.
And it wouldn't be surprising to see Shanahan eliminate any chances for redemption on a field-goal try for the rest of the game, at least until the 49ers can engineer a roster move.
