Is Jarrod Bowen right to suggest that West Ham fans may have been a bit harsh on the transfer…

**Jarrod Bowen claims it’s an “exciting time” to be a West Ham fan, but is it really?**

While there was some good business completed at the very end of the Summer, West Ham’s transfer window was hugely underwhelming. Their squad does not have enough quality depth, and in areas like the central defenders they should really have signed starting players.

However, West Ham captain Jarrod Bowen believes that it’s not all doom and gloom and that it’s actually an “exciting time” at the club.

“I care a lot for the club,” Bowen told [talkSPORT](https://talksport.com/football/3525243/jarrod-bowen-west-ham-fans-england-recall-thomas-tuchel/).

“The fans are similar to me – they’re loyal, they’re passionate, they want the best for their club.”

“I understand it, I get it and ultimately I want to win, and I want the best for the club.”

“I think we’ve recruited really well and obviously we’ve got Crysencio Summerville, who has come back from injury. He almost feels like a new signing because he’s missed, I think, nearly six months of football. He came on at the weekend as well and made a really big impact.”

“We’ve got players in positions now where you look at our squad and we’ve got a good amount of squad depth, and we’ve got good players with good Premier League experience as well.”

“So, it’s definitely an exciting time for us. Ultimately, the first two games weren’t what we wanted, but the weekend was more what we know of ourselves, so long may that continue.”

Personally, I have to disagree. While the players we brought in look like good signings, for the most part, we desperately needed more. If we go and get battered by Tottenham after the international break, which is a real possibility, then it completely undermines the Forest game as a one off.

With that being said, the win was a genuine joy to watch from start to finish, which is not something that can be said about many of the Hammers’ games over the last year or so. If more games are like that, then that would keep a lot of us happy – but it’s a big if.
