Back in 2022, the Buffalo Bills started a sixth-round pick in their season opener at cornerback despite selecting a cornerback in the first round of the draft. History could repeat itself on Sunday night.
The circumstances, of course, are completely different. Christian Benford outplayed Kaiir Elam all summer on his way to winning a starting job, while this season’s first-round pick, Maxwell Hairston, is currently on the injured reserve with a knee injury. That injury, as well as a groin injury to Tre’Davious White, which landed him on the inactive list for tonight’s game, has left Buffalo with limited options at cornerback two.
Buffalo may turn to a sixth-round pick in this year’s draft, Dorian Strong, to start opposite Benford. If not Strong, Buffalo’s other options include Ja’Marcus Ingram and Cam Lewis.
Look for Lamar Jackson to test whoever starts opposite Benford on Sunday Night Football.
While the Bills are without a key starter in tonight’s matchup, the Ravens are without two of their key pieces on offense. Tight end Isaiah Likely and fullback Pat Ricard were both ruled out for tonight’s matchup on Friday. Likely led the Ravens in receiving in their divisional round loss to Buffalo and Ricard is one of the best blocking fullbacks in football.
With both teams at less than 100 percent entering tonight’s game, here’s a look at both teams’ inactive lists.
Bills inactives
CB Tre’Davious White
OL Sedrick Van Pran-Granger
WR Curtis Samuel
DB Jordan Hancock
OL Chase Lundt
DE Landon Jackson
Ravens inactives
FB Pat Ricard
TE Isaiah Likely
FS Reuben Lowery
