SEATTLE – Special teams were an adventure at times for the Seattle Seahawks a season ago.

But they got to start the 2025 campaign on the other side of special teams misfortunates – the good side, that is.
The Seahawks benefitted from a missed field goal late in the first half, which resulted in a six-point swing, and made a play of their own on special teams in the second half to block a game-tying field goal attempt Sunday against the rival San Francisco 49ers.
The missed field goal in the first half proved to be major moment as it allowed Seattle to take at lead into the half.
After San Francisco was able to get down to the Seahawks’ 6-yard line with under 2 minutes to go in the half, Seattle’s defense came up with a critical stop to force a short field goal try. The 27-yard field goal attempt – nearly an automatic distance for kickers in the NFL – by Niners kicker Jake Moody clanked off the left upright.

The Seahawks responded by quickly getting 50 yards down the field on eight plays, including a brilliant misdirection to help Sam Darnold run the ball into field-goal range, and Jason Myers converted a 48-yard kick to grab a 10-7 lead just 2 second before halftime.
Seattle’s blocked kick came in the third quarter while holding to the same lead.
The Seahawks were able to blow up the left side of San Francisco’s line, creating a path for safety Julian Love to get through and get his hands on the kick. Veteran DeMarcus Lawrence scooped up the block and returned it nine yards.
Not today! 🤭
