EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- The Pittsburgh Steelers’ dramatic 34-32 win over the New York Jets was made possible by plenty of big plays all around, but without kicker Chris Boswell, it never happens.
Boswell sank a 56-yard field goal for his first one of the game, and to win it, he hit a 60-yarder that would have been good from much farther. It was the quintessential Boswell game, and he stuck out in impressive fashion. Head coach Mike Tomlin was not surprised, though.
“You’re going to be tested individually and collectively and how you respond to that often times defines you and I can’t say enough about Bos (K Chris Boswell). Our kicker is a serial killer, he’s got a low pulse rate, he can’t wait to deliver,” Tomlin said.
Boswell is no stranger to making those big kicks for the Steelers. He has done so at every corner. He approaches each kick the same, so when the big ones come along, he is calm.
“I felt good all day,” Boswell said. “I was making solid contact on the ball all day....the worst thing you can do is get ahead of yourself and think ‘what-if’ type of stuff.”
Steelers outside linebacker called Boswell ‘the GOAT (greatest of all time)’ and that he would never want another kicker.
Boswell launchd a new career-long with the 60-yard game winner, but has improved his leg strength over the year. Either way, the Steelers are not surprised that Boswell kicked them to victory once again just one year after he was named an All-Pro.
