Packers fans celebrate home opener with annual alumni weekend halftime ceremony

LAMBEAU FIELD, Wis. (WBAY) - Fans were certainly feeling some Super Bowl vibes on Sunday night, helped by the fact that there was a Super Bowl winner in the house.

Sunday’s game against the Detroit Lions kicked off another year of football, tailgating, and tradition.

“We have people that know that we’re here. they’ll just stop by to have a drink or.. people that don’t know us. They do the same thing. We have food we share. It’s just our way of being part of the hoopla like he said,” said Rudi Hynek of Manitowoc.

On top of that, fans like Zak Walby from Shawano met some of their favorite players. They were honored during halftime as part of the annual alumni weekend.

“It’s a flood of emotions, right? I get to relive those moments with my dad. My grandpa was here. And to see someone that can bring that all together again. My grandpa isn’t able to join me anymore, but this brings that connection,” says Zak Walby of Shawano.

“It’s always a joy to come back and see the fans. Probably the number 1 fans in all of football here. So, it’s always great to come back here,” said Packers Hall of Fame cornerback Mark Lee.

The Packers also celebrated 15 years since Super Bowl 45, and fans made their appreciation known with a massive cheer when they announced Mike McCarthy.

But to make sure it doesn’t take another 15 years....

“I think Jordan Love’s got to stay healthy this year. And this is a great game to start it with this year against Detroit. And the recent addition to the defense, I hope that’s going to help,” said Rudi.

For at least one game, it did. 16 more to go.
