Bills pull off a stunner over the Ravens: Our top 3 questions (and answers)

1. What did we learn?

The Buffalo Bills' defense has a lot of cleaning up to do. A lot. A forced fumble by Ed Oliver late in the game changed the tide and made their 41-40 win over the Ravens possible, but a lot before that was bad. Really bad. The unit had no answer for Derrick Henry, who torched the Bills for 169 rushing yards on 18 carries. The secondary faltered in numerous ways, picked apart by quarterback Lamar Jackson, and the Bills often failed to tackle. Oliver’s first-quarter sack was a highlight, but it was also the lone sack for Buffalo, which couldn’t bring Jackson down.

2. What's trending now?

What happened to the Bills' explosive offense in the first half? Back-to-back three-and-outs early in the game caused plenty of raised eyebrows around Western New York. After a decisive opening drive by the Buffalo offense, the Bills failed to sustain drives for a bit, allowing Baltimore to take control. It didn’t help that there were drops and a fumble, but coordinator Joe Brady also had a few peculiar calls throughout the game – particularly on the team’s first 2-point conversion attempt. They gained just 11 yards over two drives. The offense also had a stretch where it looked tepid, unable to unleash quarterback Josh Allen until late in the first half.

3. What happens next?

Build the Matt Prater statue. Prater, 41, got in about one real practice with the Bills this week, after taking a red-eye from Wednesday into Thursday to arrive in Western New York, coach Sean McDermott said. Sunday night, he was 3 for 3 with a field goal at the end of the first half and his 32-yard field goal to win the game in ridiculous fashion. Of course, Allen made so much of it happen, but Prater sealed the deal. The Bills get a week to reset before taking on the New York Jets, who lost 34-32 to the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday.
