The Premier League returns this week after the international break, with Newcastle United gearing up for what seems like it will be a dramatic period on and off the field of play.
Eddie Howe's men take on Wolves in their returning fixture and there is the possibility of debuts for forward signings Nick Woltemade and Yoane Wissa. But, is the boss happy with his two signings, or might he dip back into the transfer market when it reopens?
Additionally, Newcastle could be a keen spectator in another story unfolding in the Premier League as a takeover talk of a rival begins to heat up.
Jean-Philippe Mateta battle
Newcastle United have made Crystal Palace striker Jean-Philippe their next top transfer target, claims CaughtOffside. This is going to tee up a battle with Aston Villa and Leeds United, who have done the same.
Mateta has scored three times in all competitions this season. Over recent seasons he has become recognised as one of the deadliest finishers in English football, with 49 strikes for the Eagles in total.
He is yet to sign a contract extension beyond 2027, therefore his club are said to have slapped a £40 million price tag on him for suitors to ponder.
Newcastle are said to be amongst top-flight clubs keeping an eye on the situation ahead of the January window.
Chronicle Live says: As good a finisher as Mateta is, this would just seem like spending for spending's sake. Hasn't Eddie Howe just got his wish with two strikers - Nick Woltemade and Yoane Wissa - signed before the summer deadline?
Amanda Staveley statement
Sky News report that former Newcastle United minority owner Amanda Staveley is going to be forced to clarify her stance toward a new takeover attempt, this time of Tottenham Hotspur.
PCP International Finance, which is controlled by Staveley, is expected to issue a statement on Monday following discussions with the UK takeover watchdog saying that she does not intend to make a formal offer.
Speculation has arisen over recent days since Daniel Levy's exit as Spurs chairman was confirmed.
Chronicle Live says: There is plenty of legislative tape bandaged around this one, it would seem. From a Newcastle perspective it would be disappointing to see Staveley in the driving seat of a Premier League rival, but that is only because we saw just how committed she was as an owner to improving the standing of the club.
