Patrick Bamford future decision 'made' after Leeds United exit

Former Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford is set to make a move to the MLS, with a decision on his future reportedly made.

The experienced frontman was released by the Whites this summer, after dropping down the pecking order in the Championship.

Bamford was said to favour a move to the USA, but as yet has not made a firm commitment over his next step.

The 32-year-old has been linked to a move to Celtic in Scotland, but Brendan Rodgers has instead turned to former Leicester City striker Kelechi Iheanacho.

Now, the Sun's Alan Nixon reports that a move to the States is imminent for Bamford, with talk of a switch to Middlesbrough and Wrexham also coming to nothing.

Bamford scored 60 goals in 205 appearances in a Leeds United shirt, before being released this summer. Daniel Farke took the tough decision to allow him to leave, saying: "I had a really open and honest conversation with Patrick, which was important," he added. "He knows how much I rate him as a player and I would have preferred a fit Patrick Bamford for the last two seasons.

"But he is a player who needs to be the main man. He needs an arm round the shoulder after some difficult seasons. I was not willing to tell him he was the main man at Premier League level.

"In the second day of pre-season, I got him into my office and told him he is not in my plans for the upcoming season.

"It would have been easy for me to hide behind the sporting director or wait until we got someone else in, but he has done so much for this club, he deserves respect and transparency."

Former Leeds goalkeeper Paul Robinson feels Bamford is one of the best free agents available right now, and has urged the striker to consider his next move carefully.

“Bamford is a top player, maybe he wasn’t going to be in the picture for Leeds in the Premier League but he’s proven he can do it in the Championship," he told Football Insider.

“A lot of clubs who didn’t get the reinforcements they wanted in the summer will look at him.

“He’s one of the better free agents in the market right now.

“If any clubs still need a striker, Bamford will be high on their list and I expect his future will be resolved and he will find a new club soon.”
