On June 20th, Lazio goalkeeper Christos Mandas revealed that Wolverhampton Wanderers failed to sign him in the summer of 2024.
Later that month, we covered claims from Italy that Wolves could be a tempting for the 23-year-old in the recently concluded window.
Fast forward to September and Corriere dello Sport now report Wolves missed out on the stopper for the second summer in a row.
It’s claimed Vítor Pereira’s side tabled a €20m offer for the Greece international in the summer window, and the figure was the valuation set by the Serie A club.
Lazio invested €1m to buy him and his sale would have represented a significant capital gain.
The deal didn’t go through, probably because of the transfer ban imposed on the Italian club towards the end of June. The newspaper points out Lazio wouldn’t have been able to sign a replacement, and this represented an ‘additional risk’.
Maurizio Sarri has favoured Ivan Provedel ahead of Mandas for the first two league games of this season. The latter doesn’t want to spend an entire season on the bench, and Correire report Lazio are willing to consider offers for him in January.
Wolves would be given a fresh opportunity to sign Mandas, but it’s unclear whether they will make another attempt in the next window.
