Man Utd-linked Ballon d’Or nominee who has eye-catching release clause opens doors for right‘professional opportunity’

A former Manchester United target who has been nominated for the 2025 Ballon d’Or award has refused to rule out a potential move to the Premier League someday.

Manchester United wrapped up the main bulk of their transfer business last week with their player purchases before the window slammed shut for Premier League clubs.

The Red Devils were able to bring through the doors of Old Trafford five new summer signings, including the likes of Benjamin Sesko and Matheus Cunha.

United sanctioned the sale and loan deals for several other Red Devils first-team players in the summer window amid Ruben Amorim’s major overhaul of his squad.

However, the Red Devils could still offload more players if needed in September, with the transfer window still open for clubs in different countries around the world.

The Dutchman, who can play both as a right-back and right wing-back, has impressed during his stunning spell at the San Siro with Serie A side Inter Milan.

The United-linked Dumfries has shown his brilliant quality in recent seasons, including earning a place on the 30-man shortlist for the 2025 Ballon d’Or award.

The Inter Milan ace has been on international duty during the September break and Dumfries hinted that he could be open to playing in the Premier League.

“The Premier League is a fantastic competition,” he said, as per the Metro.

“I’m happy at Inter, but I think I could also do very well in England. If there were a professional opportunity, I would certainly be interested.

“The Premier League is known for its intensity, while Serie A is known for its tactical ability.

“These are two different approaches to football. The Champions League, however, always offers exciting clashes.”

Man Utd-linked Denzel Dumfries has a release clause that makes him an attractive transfer prospect in 2026

Inter Milan defender Denzel Dumfries has featured in both of the Netherlands’ World Cup qualifying matches during the September international break.

The 2025 Ballon d’Or nominee played the full 90 minutes against Poland last week and Dumfries opened the scoring in the Group G clash at the Feyenoord Stadium.

Fast-forward from the 1-1 draw against Poland and Dumfries would see out the full 90 minutes again in the Netherlands 3-2 win over Lithuania in Kaunas on Sunday.

Dumfries, who has been linked with Manchester City, has an interesting release clause in his current Inter deal that caught the eye during the summer window.

The Netherlands international was available for as little as €20m in early July due to his release clause before his fee would rise to around €30m by the middle of the month.

According to Football Italia, ex-United target Dumfries would have his release clause run until the end of July before the opportunity expired for clubs in the summer.
