Arsenal star slapped with huge tax bill after losing court battle with HMRC

Arsenal defender Oleksandr Zinchenko has been slapped with a mammoth tax bill after joining Nottingham Forest on loan. He moved to the City Ground on deadline day and will stay there until the end of the season. Zinchenko was signed after the Reds failed in a late attempt to land Atletico Madrid left-back Javi Galan.

Zinchenko barely featured for Arsenal last season and will be hoping to gain more minutes during his time at Forest. However, he will first need to worry about his tax bill, having been ordered to pay £300,000 after losing a court battle. The former Manchester City defender has also received a £35,000 bill from his accountants.

The details emerged when Zinchenko put his image rights company into voluntary liquidation earlier this week, according to The Sun.

The report states the company channelled some of the player's earnings, prompting HMRC to take the organisation to court. Back in February, the court heard the case had been settled when his team agreed to pay, but the figures were not revealed.

Zinchenko was the only shareholder of the company, Alex Zinchenko Image Rights, before Ukraine FA official Artemijs Rjabovs took over and changed the name to Ozir Ltd.

The defender is said to be earning around £150,000 per week under the terms of his Arsenal contract, which runs until next summer. It means it will only take him a fortnight to settle the bill.

Zinchenko is currently on international duty with Ukraine and featured in their defeat to France over the weekend. He is likely to play again when they take on Azerbaijan away from home on Tuesday night.

He will not be eligible to make his Forest debut when the Premier League returns later this week. They will face Arsenal and Zinchenko will be unable to play against his parent club at the Emirates Stadium.

He could feature in the Carabao Cup fixture away at Swansea City a few days later, though, before playing his first Premier League game for the Reds against newly-promoted Burnley.

After joining Forest on deadline day, Zinchenko said: "Hi guys, I'm so happy to join and so excited for the season ahead. I can't wait to meet you all there."

The defender only made 15 league appearances for Arsenal last season, starting just five of those games. He was bumped down the pecking order at left-back after the signing of Riccardo Calafiori and the emergence of Myles Lewis-Skelly.
