Barcelona starlet 'catches attention' of Chelsea, Man City ahead of potential bid

Chelsea and Manchester City are allegedly giving consideration to making an approach for a Barcelona starlet.

With the summer transfer window having recently closed, the Blues and City hierarchies can be satisfied with how they strengthened their respective first teams.

However, both Premier League giants also pay close attention to the development of their academies and have had success at that level in recent years.

In most cases, the players who have progressed through to the senior ranks have been British and Irish homegrown talent who significantly bolster their efforts to comply with the Premier League's and UEFA's registration rules when it comes to making full use of their squads.

Nevertheless, as per Fichajes, Chelsea and Man City are interested in adding a Barcelona teenager to their options.

Chelsea, Man City want Barcelona prospect

The report suggests that Dro Fernandez has caught the attention of the aforementioned teams through his performances for Barcelona's youth sides.

Fernandez, already a six-cap Spain Under 17 international, made seven appearances in the UEFA Youth League during 2024-25.

His two goals came at the start of the campaign, against Monaco and Young Boys respectively, before he was introduced off the substitutes' bench in the 4-1 victory over Trabzonspor in the final.

An outing was made for Barca Athletic against UE Porreres in the Segunda Federation - Grupo III on Sunday, the 17-year-old's first-ever appearance at that level.

That said, he was selected as an unused substitute for Barcelona's first three La Liga fixtures of this season, emphasising how highly-regarded he is by Hansi Flick.

What is Barcelona's stance?

As per the report, it is claimed that Barcelona are determined to retain Fernandez's services, highlighted by his recent presence in the first-team squad.

Fernandez currently holds a contract until 2027, providing Barcelona with more time to hand him opportunities and a new contract.

While the teenager may have some level of patience, he turns 18 in January and will want senior football as soon as possible.
