Matty Cash was giving nothing away about his injury as he reacted to Poland’s World Cup qualifier win over Finland.
The Aston Villa right-back scored as Poland beat Finland 3-1 on Sunday, but he was also substituted at half-time with an injury, after being fouled by Jere Urone.
Poland manager Jan Urban said: “He suffered a severe bruise from the foul, after which he was assisted by doctors and physiotherapists.
"It was a typical knee strike to the quadriceps muscle. The longer you run with something like that, the more it starts to harden.
“He was already limping at the end of the first half. Despite this, he wanted to continue playing. I personally convinced him to make a substitution.
“I substituted him at half-time, and I think it was a good decision, both mine and his, as he agreed to be substituted and wasn’t stubborn about continuing to play.
“Well, he wouldn’t have lasted much longer. I’ve had injuries like that myself. It’s only a matter of time before you can’t run anymore.”
Cash posted a picture of his goal celebration on Instagram after the final whistle and said: “Enjoyable night in Poland”.
Villa fans will be hoping the positive post is a hint his injury is not serious as he returns to Bodymoor Heath after the international break.
Villa play Everton at the Hill Dickinson Stadium in the Premier League on Saturday and Cash has started all three of their games so far this term.
