David Moyes will love what Jordan Pickford has said after Everton open contract talks

Jordan Pickford is set to sign a new Everton contract, and the goalkeeper has finally spoken out, saying something which is music to David Moyes’ ears.

The Everton number one is in talks about the possibility of devoting the rest of his career to the Merseyside club.

Pickford is nearing ten years with the Toffees, and it seems right that a new deal leads him to retire with the Blues.

The keeper has been the ever-reliable man between the sticks, with Pickford to be a ‘key’ player in Everton’s future.

His performances warrant the decision made by Moyes, and now the England international has made his feelings very clear.

Jordan Pickford says he’s still ‘improving’ as Everton goalkeeper

Despite having two years left on his current contract, the Friedkin Group are working efficiently to get him tied down for the rest of his career.

It makes sense after Pickford’s £30 million transfer from Sunderland has been a resounding success, and he continues to show his worth.

For the first time since the news was announced, the Everton shotstopper has been speaking to the Liverpool Echo, and has said how he is only getting better.

“I think I’m still growing,” Pickford said.

“I’ll never say I’m at my peak, I’ll always be aiming to peak at the right levels and always wanting to improve.

“I don’t want to be at my peak and then all of a sudden do that (gestures downwards). I want to keep improving and keep pushing myself, pushing the limits to get even better.

“By that, I mean training hard every day with Luc (David Lucas, Everton goalkeeper coach) and the lads, putting in performances week in, week out, and being consistent.

“Being 31 or 24 it doesn’t matter about your age so long as I keep improving and feeling good, which I am, and I’m still young as a keeper.”

The 31-year-old certainly isn’t wrong that age isn’t a factor when you’re in goal, and this could lead to something pretty special happening.

Jordan Pickford could have another five-plus years in net for Everton

Considering his next contract will take him to the end of his excellent tenure as a footballer, this could mean Pickford has another five or more years left in him.

This could lead to Pickford having the most Premier League appearances for Everton, taking over veteran Seamus Coleman.

It could also mean that the keeper joins the illustrious club of playing 500 or more games for the club, as the England number one could be the fourth to do it.

There is no better man between the sticks for the Blues, and it gives Moyes one less worry as Pickford isn’t slowing down anytime soon.
