Most Leeds United players are set to return in the coming days after completing international duty. It has been a mixed bag of results for some of the club’s players.
Wales duo Dan James and Karl Darlow had some success this week, while Jaka Bijol had a night he would like to forget in action against Sweden. When Leeds return from the international break, their first game is away from home to Fulham. The Whites have had some major problems on the road this season, as they have failed to win a single game.

Midfield Ilia Gruev is having a tough week for Bulgaria’s national team. The Leeds star’s side lost both of their games this week; a 3-0 defeat to Spain and another 3-0 loss to Georgia. Gruev has already been involved in a controversial incident, as he was involved in a scuffle off the ball with Spain’s Lamine Yamal. But after the game, he played down the incident and praised the young winger.
Bulgarian media Tema Sport are now reporting that Ilia Gruev is in the middle of a team scandal. According to them, the midfielder launched a scathing attack on his teammates and head coach after the loss to Spain. He was particularly critical about his team’s performances, which seemed to rub everyone the wrong way.
Bulgaria head coach Illian Illiev dropped Gruev from the squad to face Georgia. But the FA heard this, and reinstated the midfielder into the team. Illiev made the decision to bench Gruev for the game, and he only came on at half time in the 3-0 loss to Georgia.
Gruev could be out for Leeds’ next game
The week could go from bad to worse for Ilia Gruev, as the midfielder seems to have picked up an injury. Bulgaria boss Illian Illiev told the media that the Leeds star played the second half of the Georgia game carrying a knock:
“Gruev had problems, questionable whether to start or come in as a sub.
“He came in and coped. I hope there are no consequences from the fact that he played with problems.”
Hopefully the injury is not serious and he recovers in time to play Fulham this weekend.
