Man United Could Be Handed Major Injury Boost After Key Player Drops Hint About Return For Derby

Man United forward Matheus Cunha has strongly hinted that he is targeting a comeback in the Manchester derby this weekend.

In an Instagram story, the Brazilian posted an image of himself working in the gym, captioned by the word “Sunday’s” and the location Manchester, with the hourglass and dynamite emojis.

It seems Cunha is very hopeful of being back in the matchday squad for the clash against City at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday evening.

The 25-year-old sustained a hamstring injury during the first half of the 3-2 win over Burnley at the end of last month. He was forced off half an hour into the match, with Joshua Zirkzee taking his place.

Cunha would be risking his fitness

Supporters would be delighted if the £62.5m summer signing from Wolves is back available but it must be pointed out that he only suffered his injury 9 days ago.

Even low-grade hamstring injuries take a few weeks to recover from and there is a concern that, if Cunha returns too early, he could risk reinjuring himself and being sidelined for a much longer period of time.

It is also telling that Cunha shared a picture of him in the gym, rather than out on the grass, which suggests he is still not ready to take part in full training.

Will any other Man United players miss the derby?

Mason Mount is not expected to feature this weekend. The attacking midfielder was substituted at halftime against Burnley with an unspecified issue.

Diogo Dalot is also a serious doubt, having withdrawn from international duty due to a muscular problem, while Lisandro Martinez (ACL) has already been ruled out.

Andre Onana will not be in the squad either, with the 29-year-old set to complete his loan move to Turkish side Trabzonspor.
