Arsenal’s summer transfer window has been lauded by Gunners legend Nigel Winterburn.

Mikel Arteta splashed £263million on eight signings as Arsenal went above and beyond in their attempts to finally land another Premier League title after three consecutive second placed finishes and a two-decade wait.

Arteta welcomed Eberechi Eze from Crystal Palace for £67.5million in his most expensive acquisition of the summer. While the Spaniard finally landed that elusive striker as Viktor Gyokeres arrived from Sporting for £63.7m.

Arsenal also added Martin Zubimendi, Noni Madueke, Piero Hincapie, Cristhian Mosquera, Christian Norgaard and Kepa Arrizabalaga as the Gunners bolstered their strength in depth across the board.

Former left-back Winterburn, 61, speaking exclusively to the Daily Star Sport on behalf of Casino.org, who rank the best online casinos, said he thinks Arsenal did all they needed to do in the transfer window.

The three-time league title winner with Arsenal said: "Well, they've done what they needed to do, there's no doubt about that.

"First thing everyone was crying for was a centre forward. They've bought one that was in form. Until Gyokeres fits completely into the team, starts scoring a lot of goals, people are not stupid, they'll still ask the questions.

"But it’s the same with [Florian] Wirtz at Liverpool, a lot of money, but he hasn't fitted in yet completely, and Liverpool have won three games.

“I don’t see anywhere else where Arsenal would have strengthened their game. The two positions that most people were talking about, centre forward, left side forward - they've done that with Gyokeres and Eze.

“Then they’ve also added Martin Zubimendi who looks very good, and then they've re-strengthened in other areas.”

Winterburn, who won the First Division with the Gunners in 1989 and 1991, plus the Premier League in 1998, added Arsenal’s signings have significantly improved the club’s depth.

He stated it has only strengthened his pre-season belief that the Gunners can finally win their first title in more than 20 years.

Winterburn said: “I mean, you could almost look now if everyone's fit, they've got two teams that you could possibly say wouldn't be too much weaker than their starting team.

“Everything is in place. Hopefully the injuries stay away because we've already got a few, but then there's a lot of clubs in the Premier League that are in the same position already, which is quite incredible, really.

“But if it stays away, there's no doubt in my mind we should be very, very close. I haven't changed my opinion since the start of the season to the third game in.
