Garrett Wilson Gets Honest About Justin Fields’ Performance

The New York Jets might have lost their Week 1 matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers, but their performance in this game was surprising to fans across the league.

Justin Fields and Aaron Rodgers got into a shootout, and this game ended up being among the highest-scoring of the Sunday slate.

People didn’t know what to expect of Fields, who is now on his third team after being drafted in 2021, but he showed a lot of promise by going toe-to-toe with Rodgers.

He received a lot of praise from fans around the league and from members of the media, and his teammates were also excited to see him succeed.

Garrett Wilson talked about his success in a postgame press conference shared via Harrison Glaser on X, reuniting with Fields after their shared experience at Ohio State.

“It felt good to be back out there with Justin, and just to know that he’s got my back and I’ve got his, and that’s the mentality, the mindset, the relationship that we’re gonna take into every week,” Wilson said.

"That boys a dawg. That's the man I know. He come out & put everything on the field every play. He don't give up on any play, he don't give up on anything, & I know stuff like that is inspiring to the dudes on the field… pic.twitter.com/mpXRMc7DdP

Wilson and Fields had a built-in chemistry from their time in college, and it showed during this game.

He was the Jets’ leading receiver in this game by a long shot, garnering seven receptions for 95 yards and a touchdown, while the next closest pass-catcher only had 38 yards.

This duo could make for lots of excitement throughout the course of the season, only getting stronger as the year goes on.

The Jets might have lost this game, but it also appears that they found their new starting QB in the process, a consolation prize they’ll gladly accept.
