The NBA is one of the few major sports leagues that allows each team to play in every city during a season. However, Boston Celtics guard Derrick White doesn’t enjoy one particular Western Conference town.
Last Wednesday, White was on his podcast “White Noise,” where he was asked about his least favorite city to play in.
“Memphis probably,” White said. “I mean, the hotel is probably the worst in the NBA.”
For NBA players, having a quality hotel is crucial because they often arrive in a city early in the morning after a game the night before, seeking great rest before their next contest.
When Boston visited Memphis in March, White seemed to have set aside any hotel issues and must’ve managed to get a good night’s sleep. White came close to recording a triple-double, finishing with 14 points, 10 assists and eight rebounds in a 117-108 victory.

The hotel might not be up to White’s standards, but he is a fan of the city’s food. “The food is good, though,” White said. “I don’t know if it’s the healthiest for you.”
Memphis is famous for its excellent barbecue, but it may not be the best choice the night before or on game day.
Usually, Boston only has to face Memphis once a season since they both play in separate conferences. However, this year, White will have to face the Memphis hotel at least twice.

The Celtics open their preseason in Memphis on Oct. 8th. Then will travel there for a regular-season matchup on March 20th.
