Ex-Steelers QB roasted for postgame comments following loss

New York Giants fans are frustrated with quarterback Russell Wilson for his comments after Sunday’s season-opening loss to the Washington Commanders.

The Giants managed only 6 points and 231 total yards in the ugly defeat, and Wilson completed less than 50 percent of his passes.

Despite the poor offensive showing, Russell Wilson was positive in his postgame comments.

“I thought we competed our butts off today,” the former Steelers QB said. “It was a physical game. I thought we left it all on the field and gave it our all, physically. Just, kind of, you stand tall in the midst of that game, just kind of battling through it and try to find a way to win.”

Needless to say, Giants fans had a different view of how the game played out.

“We left 6 points on the field, Russ. [What you mean] we left it all on the field?” one fan said.

Added another: "Jaxson Dart QB1 next week."

Russell Wilson went on to say that the offense’s issues came down to execution in the red zone. In reality, the Giants seemed to have problems moving the ball throughout the day.

Wilson was 17 of 37 passing for 168 yards with no touchdowns. He was also sacked twice. As for the rushing attack, New York averaged 3.2 yards per carry on 23 attempts.

“Like I said, they stopped us in the red zone,” Wilson commented. “I think that was the name of this game. We had eight or nine possessions. Two of them were down in the red zone. We didn’t capitalize on those, so that’s what we’ve got to do.”

While the veteran Russell Wilson got the start for the Giants in their season opener, there’s no guarantee he will maintain that starting spot moving forward.

Head coach Brian Daboll was asked after the loss if he would consider starting rookie Jaxson Dart next week and certainly didn’t rule out the possibility.

“We’re going to get home and look at our game,” he said, per ESPN. “We have to do better around overall -- coaches, players, [all] around everybody. So we’ll get focused and ready to go on to Dallas.”
