Arsenal lose out as Premier League rivals seal move for 21 goal wonderkid - reports

Arsenal and Crystal Palace have settled on a compensation package for the transfer of teenager Dan Casey, according to reports from journalist Bobby Manzi.

The agreement clears the way for the 17-year-old to join the Palace under-21 side once his medical and other formalities are complete.

Casey has been out of contract since the end of the season. Arsenal offered him fresh terms, which meant Palace needed to agree a fee or face a tribunal.

Palace win race for Arsenal prospect

Several clubs were keeping tabs on Casey this summer. Both Arsenal and Palace held talks with the forward, while Norwich City also expressed interest.

Despite the competition, Palace were always seen as the most likely destination. Once the two clubs reached a compromise on the financial package, the move was set in motion.

An official confirmation from the South London side is expected soon.

Casey’s record at the youth level

Casey had a standout campaign for the Arsenal under-18s in 2024/25. He scored 21 goals across all competitions, including 18 in the under-18 Premier League.

He also netted twice in the FA Youth Cup and added another goal in the under-18 Premier League Cup. His form made him one of the most effective players at that level.

The teenager featured for both the under-19s and the under-21s during the season. However, he did not register any goals or assists in those appearances.

Style of play

Casey is viewed as a versatile attacker who can play in several positions. He is primarily an attacking midfielder, but he is also capable of leading the line or operating from wide areas.

He is recognised for his sharp finishing, smart movement into space, and ability to link play with team-mates. His runs behind the defence often create openings for himself and others.

Palace will hope Casey can continue his development in their youth set-up and eventually progress to first-team level.
