Man Utd dominate nomination list for Premier League Hall of Fame, seven ex-players in contention

The Premier League Hall of Fame currently consists of eight former Manchester United players, as well as Sir Alex Ferguson.

The Hall of Fame launched in 2021, with a list of inaugural inductees, including three ex-Manchester United players. They included David Beckham, Eric Cantona and Roy Keane.

A further three United players were added to the Premier League Hall of Fame in 2022, such as Wayne Rooney, Peter Schmeichel and Paul Scholes.

In 2023, managers were introduced, with Sir Alex Ferguson joined by former rival Arsene Wenger. Former United defender Rio Ferdinand, who won six Premier League titles, was also added to the hall of fame.

Last year, Andy Cole was the only former United player to join the list.

Preparations are underway to increase the Premier League Hall of Fame members, with seven ex-United stars in contention.

Perhaps the biggest factor to weigh in as how many league titles these players have won.

Neville has the most with eight, while nominees like Robbie Fowler and Jermain Defoe never lifted the league title during their careers.

The next inductees will be announced on Tuesday, 4 November.

What did Sir Alex Ferguson say about the Premier League Hall of Fame?

Nobody is more deserving of a place in the Premier League Hall of Fame than Ferguson.

The Scot was recognised for winning the title a record 13 times during his reign at Old Trafford.

After being inducted in 2023, Ferguson said, as per ManUtd.com: “I’m truly delighted to be inducted into the Premier League Hall of Fame.

“It’s an honour when you receive recognition like this. However, it’s not just about me as a person. It’s about the job at Manchester United and the bond we had over many years, so I’m also proud for the club, the staff and my players.

“My job was to send the fans home happy. United’s history and my own expectations were the things that drove me, and I then had to try to develop all my players with the same expectations and make sure we could go out and achieve them.

“I feel Arsene is a very worthy inductee as he transformed Arsenal Football Club fantastically. They became a tough team to compete with and we both wanted to win, which motivated us further. Through the years since retirement, we’d go for dinner together in a little restaurant he knows well in Switzerland. He is a really interesting man and I enjoy his company, but it is still my job to pick the wine!”
